You can enter a web page title, description, and keywords for every page in your website.
Search engines love this information and it helps your website reach closer to the top of search engine "relevancy based" search results.
What is a meta tag
A meta tag is the broad name given to information that is stored behind the website. It is information about each webpage in your website.
Meta tags include:
- Page title
- Description
- Keywords, and more
The best way to see meta tags when you are looking at a website is to right click in the middle of the page and then click on View Source.
Do I need to register with Search Engines?
You don't need to register with search engines for their "spider/robot" programs to find your website and the contents on it, but the more places you register your details the more times it will appear in "organic" search results, PLUS there are some fantastic website development tools available for you, if you have the time to understand how they work.
Registering a Google Account
When you register a google account you are introduced to a whole world of new search optimisation and webmaster tools. Tools like A/B testing to create one or two variations of say your home page and find out which variation people preferred the most.
You can then use Google Analytics to provide you with details stats about how many visitors, return visits, duration at your website, most clicked hyperlinks and much much more.
I would say it is worth Horegistering :-)
