Have you noticed the social media ads for Reckon, MYOB and Xero? It’s 2 months out from the end of financial year and it’s interesting to see the comments on Facebook to the ads of these companies.
They all have different marketing messages. Which one would you choose?
The marketing spin is designed to make you feel a certain way about each software program and it’s sad to see MYOB trying so hard to have the cheapest product.
The comments in the ads show the real feeling on the street and here are a few that I found interesting.
Price increases are killing micro businesses. Every year at around this time Xero relentlessly increases their monthly subscription fees.
They’re smart with their marketing because they always tie it in with the amazing amount of innovation they provide but it’s a hard call from many businesses who just want accounting software to do simple things.

Even looking at what they are doing with MYOB Solo you can see a persistent issue with MYOB. They have so many different programs that half the battle seems to be which program to choose and then will is scale with them when they grow?
The first issues I read about was the difficulty in creating new contacts and not being able to import them all – even from a website browser and that there is no website link you can use. You HAVE to use the APP only.

Reckon simply doesn’t have the features and support that the other brands have. Try and find someone who can help you with your Reckon accounting software?
There is a network of professionals but you can just find someone next door or close by to help you.
From an online course perspective we’ve found that they don’t enable you to trial the software multiple times. This is no good when students want to do a refresher of our courses but can’t get in an use the software because their initial (and ONLY) trial has ended.

The biggest issue with Netsuite is that most small businesses don’t need the features that the software offers. This programs fits a beautiful space between small business software and an Enterprise ERP – Enterprise Resource Planning software.
It’s great for exactly what their advertising says “companies that have outgrown Xero”.
