We’re the same. We love to come into contact with new software and internet technology and anything that will help us to remain a market leader in online MYOB training. Recent feedback has been about the navigation around our online training video tutorials. These videos are full audio visual demonstrations using the software, just like you would expect in a training classroom using a data projector.

With online training video tutorials you can go over our material again and again until you understand it. You can also go over it in the future when you come across a problem you need some help with. Combine it with our step-by-step training exercises and knowledge reviews and you have a complete learning solution.

So, what’s the news?

What does this mean?

It means that the videos are hosted on a separate service to the learning course so that both will operate much faster. All new training videos will also have a navigation panel and the ability to scroll through the video to the place you want to be and finally you’ll be able to expand the video so that it takes up your entire screen.

We’ve just created training video tutorials for our MYOB bank reconciliation course!

The training workbook for the bank reconciliation course contains a project where you can create a new company file from scratch, import an accounts list (Chart of Accounts), import transaction journals and then enter your own transactions to complete a bank reconciliation. It’s a very satisfying feeling!

    MYOB Training Q&A: Printing Cheques using MYOB

    We recently introduced the EzyLearn Q&A service for our MYOB online training course students to give you more specific answers to your MYOB questions.     One of our students in Perth is having some issues printing cheques and the bookkeeper for their organisation is being a little cagey with the information so we jumped in to help.

    In a nutshell you need to make sure that whether you create a cheque from the banking module or the Purchases module, you need to ensure that when your payment is entered that it is NOT marked as printed. So that when you do search for Cheques to be printed the one you want will show up.

    You should now have your certificate

    Iroshini - Online Training CoursesYou may recall that we identified a GAP in our internal resources last week (ie. we needed an extra team member) to help us with the backlog of assessing and issuing of certificates for our online Microsoft Excel and MYOB training courses.

    Well, here she is Iroshini has performed small tasks for us over the last month or so, but she’s now on board to ensure that the results of knowledge reviews are assessed quickly so that you can receive your  certificates faster. The result is you should have your certificate now 🙂

    Our Online MYOB Training Course has proven to be extremely popular and along with the announcement of Iroshini’s arrival we want you to know that we are currently building our MYOB Payroll course to include more detailed information about the Payroll liability accounts and how to create and setup a new employee, and create the pay slips.

    MYOB Training Course: We’ve identified problems

    MYOB online training course knowledge reviewsDon’t be alarmed, but we have identified problems. We’ve conducted some GAP analysis on our processes and realise that it is taking too long for us to assess the results of knowledge reviews.

    There are always ways that we can improve our business and the best way of finding out is by feedback from students who’ve actually completed the course. Like all good businesses we try hard to get better at what we offer and how we offer it and I’ve taken measures to ensure that our assessment issue is rectified immediately!

    Stay tuned for news about an addition to our team to handle student knowledge review assessments for the EzyLearn MYOB Course Certificate. We pride ourselves on having a very popular online MYOB training course that you can enrol into today and start by 5pm the next business day and now we are aiming to bring down the time for completion of assessment so that you can have your course completed, assessed and a certificate issued within 2 weeks. That’s our next goal.

    MYOB Online Course Videos — Creating Customer Cards

    Click on the heading to view the image or video if you are receiving this via email.

    Creating customer cards in MYOB is easy! To enter a new customer, simply click on ‘New’; this will bring up a new window.

    It’s also simple to edit customers here. Say you want to change postal or contact details, simply click on ‘Customer’ and hit ‘Edit’.

    You will note that MYOB gives you a choice in the designation section to enter a company or an individual. All customer entries are stored alphabetically so make sure if you are entering an individual you use their last name first.

    You use the tab key as a shortcut to go through all the fields.

    A handy hint: When a customer has a longer address, such as a unit number or a Suite number, hold the Control Key and press ‘Enter’ for a second line.

    Also, if you have tabbed past a field you need, simply hold the Shift Key and hit the ‘Tab’ key to go up to the field above.

    MYOB online course videos – Accounts list is your chart of accounts

    Even if you have used the MYOB ‘default’ to set accounts details for your company you can still change the account details after entering your Company details. This comes in handy especially if you receive account details after from the company accountant. MYOB allows you to import this new list, just click on import list.

    When selecting the type of business for your company in the Accounts list, MYOB will change the accounts relating to that business accordingly.

    MYOB online course videos – Company information & 13th period

    Make sure all accounting details are correct in the company details. You will not be able to change any details once entered and saved. So the rule here is check and double check all details are correct.

    Did you know that in MYOB there is a 13th Accounting Period? This is not another month but is an accounting period where you can make any accounting changes if needed.

    MYOB online course videos – Create New Company File using MYOB

    When setting up a new company in MYOB the only section which is required is the company name. This is handy to know especially when entering a number of companies. Once entered, you can go back and fill in the details.

    Clicking on the next button allows you to go to the next section which makes data entry easier and quicker.

    Do you have an MYOB bookkeeping question?

    When we introduce a new service linked to our online training courses we announce it here at the EzyLearn blog. Today we announce the EzyLearn Q&A Service for the MYOB Accounting Course. This service will be rolled out to all online courses over the coming year.

    Online MYOB training for New Zealand students

    We’ve had some inquiries and enrolments from New Zealand students and this blog is to help you understand some fundamental differences between Australian and New Zealand versions.

    The first thing you need to be aware of is that the knowledge review questions used in our MYOB Payroll Introduction (course 505) use the sample company file which comes with the free MYOB Test drive. From discoveries made by our New Zealand students the sample file contains different information in different countries. You need to use the Australian version to get the correct answers.

    This brings another problem, when you try to download the Australian version of the test drive you need to enter a phone number. One of our students entered our telephone number as the contact number and we have no problem with you doing that if you are an EzyLearn student. If we hear something different from MYOB we’ll let you know.

    I should also mention at this point that this might also apply to our students from Canada, China, Korea, UK and other parts of the world.

    How did you go in the MYOB skills test?

    We recently made a quick MYOB skills test available on our website to coincide with the launch of our full online MYOB training and assessment tools and the result from over 3000 website visitors showed some very interesting information. The average score was 44.74, with the bulk of students receiving between 31-70%.

    Most fascinating was that less than 10% of all attempts managed to get the first two questions right! These questions related to what options are found in the command centres.

    Are MYOB skills good enough to be a bookkeeper?

    I remember the days when MYOB was a young company called Data Tech Pty Ltd, they were based in Crows Nest and gave trials of their software on floppy disk and videos on how powerful their software was on VHS. It was also an awkward situation if you wanted to become “certified”. Many people learnt how to use the software and offered their services and it wasn’t until you had a couple customers under your belt that you could become certified by MYOB. This scenario is now very different.

    Education businesses around Australia (and New Zealand) now have strict guidelines to follow when they deliver and assess their training (as part of the Cert IV in Training and Assessment) and there’s a whole new official language which includes: Scope of Registration, Units of competency, Learning outcomes, competency mapping, Core subjects, electives, qualifications, subjects etc. The great news is that we are now “mapping” our training material with the outcomes for the Cert IV in Bookkeeping!

    This qualification will be mandatory by 2013 if you plan to perform bookkeeping tasks for a business whether you are an employee, contractor or a small business owner.
