We’re approaching the end of the financial year and everyone will be reading and trying to understand their annual financial reports, particularly if they have outstanding Superannuation to pay (and claim) or they need funding.

I’ve written in the past about how to create a cashflow forecast using Xero and Excel and this post is a summary of good practices and recommendations when it comes to cashflow reporting

Will Intuit Make Much More Money with MailChimp than QuickBooks?

Mailchimp Email Marketing Training Courses - will Intuit make more money than with accounting software - EzyLearn Career Academy

We use Mailchimp for our email marketing and I had to sit down and have a cup of tea after looking at our recent payment! There was no shock increase in costs or monthly fees and in fact everything is working perfectly but I realised how much money MailChimp make as our customer and prospect list grows in size.

Could you imagine paying extra for Xero or MYOB software just because the number of transactions increased? And I don’t mean a couple dollars extra, I mean double the monthly fee!

I also noticed that MailChimp is now already integrated into the QuickBooks Online software for all businesses to access. Here’s what it looks like.

Bookkeeping fun? Yeh, nah

failure to lodge penalties how to manage payroll in Excel online training course

I’ve often wondered why EzyLearn has become best know for MYOB & Xero Bookkeeping courses and about the students who need to do a bookkeeping course to find work. It’s not the most exciting of topics really and most students do a MYOB/Xero course because they HAVE TO, not because they want to.

When we we design the outline and case studies for our courses I’ve tried to have some fun with the accounting aspects of a business. I’m not sure about you but the best part of starting a new business is the beginning when everything is new and shiny!

Business Owners Learn MYOB & Xero with EzyLearn ANSWERS

Many accounts are affected when you pay an employee - Journal Entries - MYOB & Xero Bookkeeping Courses - EzyLearn

Business owners who need to learn how to use MYOB and Xero like the added support that is available if they have a question that relates to their own business.

Unlike Job Seekers who choose MYOB and Xero COMPLETE training courses to learn as much as they can about these bookkeeping programs, Business owners often have questions which relate to things they want to resolve in their business.

Most of the questions students have are solved as they progress through the logical order of the courses we’ve created but sometimes things get a little weird.

Employment Hero offers $100 if you’ll demo their software

Get $100 Invitation email for attending a demo of Employment Hero - Workforce Management Training Courses

A popular and well funded HR and Payroll software company, which is backed by Seek (yes, the employment site) is offering 100 to “qualified” businesses who agree to participate in a demonstration of their software.

This is an example of what companies need to do today to get in front of their prospects in business to business selling. This company is trying quickly and this tactic reminds me of the kind of marketing tactics that PayPal used to massively grow their user base. It looks like the kind of strategy that Peter Thiel writes about in his book Zero to One.

QuickBooks Payroll brand is changing to Employment Hero

Employment Hero owns KeyPay - workforce management training courses and employee benefits, loyalty and team building - EzyLearn

Intuit revealed the name change to their QuickBooks Payroll customers today as part of an acquisition of KeyPay owner by Employment Hero.

If all that didn’t make sense the only real change here is that KeyPay will be rebranded as Employment Hero. Employment Hero has been around since 2014 and purchased KeyPay owner, Webscale Pty Ltd in 2021.

The messy part of this from my perspective is that Intuit, who owns Tsheets is now depending on Employment Here for their payroll solution. It also means that we now have an Employment Hero training course 🙂

The first moment Credit Risk happens

Credit risk is the probability of not getting paid, simple. Some business owners think that just having some special clauses in their terms of trade is all they need to do but there’s more involved.

When you offer anyone credit you are entering into a whole separate debt agreement. It’s no longer just providing goods and services and the warranties which come with that. When you offer credit (to anyone, even friends) there is an expectation that the borrower will repay the loan in good faith – in other words as quickly as possible. But many things can get in the way and the credit component of the transaction can get awkward.

What does voluntary administration look like?

Mentor Education ASIC notification of Voluntary Administration and Creditors Meeting - will students be notified

I wrote earlier this week about Mentor Educations fate under the hands of an administrator and it all comes down to Credit Management. The “business for sale ad” touts that they earned $5M in revenue but they appear to have a cashflow management issue. Should someone have completed EzyLearn’s Credit Management Course?

This is quite a serious matter for existing students and it is a good case study example about important steps that every business needs to take if they are giving credit. It appears that one or more of Mentor Education’s creditors did have good credit management procedures in place..

Singapore Government Paying Xero Subscriptions For It’s Small Businesses!?

Singapore Government Productivity Solutions Grant pays up to 70 percent for up to 2000 dollars for Xero Setup and Training - EzyLearn Online Courses

A Singapore based accounting firm shared this information with us and we almost couldn’t believe it! There is even a blog at the Xero website about how the Singapore Government have a grant that will pay up to 70% of the cost of getting setup and trained in Xero.

This is part of their “pre scoped” solutions for small businesses who fit a certain criteria and there are three solutions that are valued up to $2,000 odd.

Mentor appears to be going broke

Mentor Education is going broke and is for sale at Seek Business

I received an unusual email this last week about a competitor that is under administration and for sale. The receivers wanted to know if we were interested in buying the business but we’d have to pay $5,000 (refundable) to take a look at the state of their accounts and financial affairs. The strange thing is that they emailed our entire support team to share the news!!!

Mentor Education partnered with The Career Academy a couple years ago and then started advertising very heavily along with a couple other “partners” of this company. I’m not sure if these partners are aware that Daniel Hunt and The Career Academy were convicted by the New Zealand equivalent of ASQA for misleading advertising regarding accredited training…

Seen the new cheap accounting software on Facebook? FREE for 6 months, is it okke?

OKKE FREE accounting software for 6 months no online training required vs Xero - Website Image - EzyLearn

Am I a bookkeeping nerd or is everyone else also seeing these “financial” advertisements for tax lodgement, easy bookkeeping and 6 month FREE access to accounting software?

It’s interesting to see a new accounting software company appear in Australia despite the fact that many have come and gone in the past – particularly during this market downturn for technology shares! Their offer is pretty compelling though..

Deputy, KeyPay, Square Teams, QuickBooks Time Training Course NOW Available

Square-Team-Staff-Rostering-Scheduling-Workforce-Management-Software-Training-Courses-Smartphone-apps-EzyLearn

These are the market leading workforce management integrations for rostering, scheduling and time and attendance monitoring. Deputy was one of the first but the major accounting software companies are now snapping them up.

The most interesting story here has been KeyPay. I’ve loved the fact that Intuit partnered with the Australian company KeyPay to provide all of the local Australian payroll functionality in their QuickBooks Online software. Tsheets would also have been in this list but you know what happened to them..
