Issues with Receipts

Most receipts are printed on thermal paper and with exposure to light and the sun the figures disappear after spending time on the dashboard, in your wallet or in the shoebox.

Receipts are also easy to lose and having a digital copy means you can easily find it when you need it at the end of the year or if your accountant needs to see the source document.

What % of expenses can you claim to reduce your taxable income?

Working from home and claiming expenses using Xero & MYOB software training courses

We’ve received lots of training course inquiries from new business in this last couple of months and a question that came up recently was “do you have a course that explains how much I can claim”. The person was asking about how much of the cost of their car can they claim as an expense because they use it for their business.

The answer to this question reminded me of how “flexible” the taxation laws are in Australia. You can “claim” any amount that you want and unless you are audited by the ATO you could possibly get away with it!!

The correct way is to determine how much of your costs are actually associated with your business and use that percentage. The ATO goes on to explain how to do this in detail.

Xero Status: “Can’t log in to Xero” Caused Global Problems

Issues with Xero login prevents UK users from sending invoice and bookkeepers from working - Online Xero Training Courses EzyLearn Bookkeeping Academy

We’re so used to everything online being available all the time that we don’t think about the risks associated with a website being down. Xero experienced a MASSIVE issue relating to the ability for their users to login and use the software on the 27th July 2021. This meant that

Invoices couldn’t be created
Pay runs couldn’t be made
Accounts Receivable staff couldn’t see if customers had paid
Accounting staff couldn’t use Xero for their work

We all take for granted the benefits of having multiple staff logging in at the same time from different locations as well as automatic backups of our information, but this issue lasted from 8:25AM until 7:04PM – that’s 12 hours!

Xero is transparent about any issues and fixes about their software so you can see exactly what happened that day.

I find it interesting to see the messages coming from both these companies. They seem to arrive at similar times and it shows that they are very closely watching each others digital marketing messages and fighting for your attention by revealing what they are doing for you, their clients.
